Atrial fibrillation (AF)

Diagnostic and therapeutic approach

Digitalis (Digoxine)

0.5 à 1 mg i.v. in 10 minutes.

0.125 à 0.5 mg/day.

  • Renal failure.
  • Conduction disorders and WPW.
  • Hypokalemia.
  • Unsubstituted Hypothyroidism. If ventricular tachyarrhythmias and / or nausea and vomiting, think of digitalis toxicity.

In this case and in the presence of hemodynamic instability or severe hyperkalemia, consider Fab (digoxin-binding antibody fragments).

Caution in patients with renal failure!
